Born and raised in Szeged Hungary, Szilvia Revesz studied jewelry making and design in Budapest, Hungary. In 1999 she moved to the US where she studied print and papermaking at SUNY Purchase and MSU and earned a BFA degree from Montclair State University. Her live/work studio is in West Orange, New Jersey.
From early on in her studies Revesz was interested in unconventional techniques of printmaking and experimental marbling. For the past five years she has been exploring Suimonga (an advanced form of Japanese Suminagashi “Spilled ink”) which she utilizes in her printing.
Her work explores “organized chaos" that reflects nature through a process of “Suimonga”. The resulting imagery resembles cross sections of minerals and gemstones which conjure up images of a Taoist Scholar’s stone. Revesz finds her imagery in this process, where chance and manipulation are equally present.
